Meet
Mr. Faraday
My name is Noah Faraday. My wife and I live in our home in Minneapolis, Minnesota. I work in my small shop where I make sculpture, lighting and signs out of sheet metal.
I became a fabricator slowly over time and sort of by accident. I'm often disappointed when I go into a store to buy something. The items available, designed to be profitable and mass produced in factories, are rarely perfect for my needs. To solve this problem, I started modifying things that were available or building my own stuff from scratch. Over the years and with varying levels of success, I've made furniture, clothing, cars, bikes and a lot of my own tooling. Throughout this process, I've honed my craft and picked up many practical skills. From welding to sewing, painting, electronics and carpentry, there is always more to learn.
I've always loved history and the stories and artifacts from past eras that make history alive and relevant. A lot of my work is influenced by the wild, flamboyant design aesthetic of mid century America. I rarely accept things for what they are. As a natural problem solver with an active imagination, I'm constantly redesigning things to make them better. These tendencies have naturally led me to retro-futurism. The endless and naive optimism of post-war America is beautiful and inspiring to me.
Although I've always worked on creative projects, I really started to actively make art in 2015. The response to my work has been wonderful and unexpected and it makes me wish I'd started making sculpture earlier in my life. Looking forward, I hope to continue exploring mid century futurism through my favorite medium, metal.
